The Outremer 48: A Fast and Efficient Cruising Catamaran

The Outremer shipyard has recently introduced its new multihull, the Outremer 48. This 14-meter catamaran, designed by VPLP Design, is set to replace the Outremer 45.

If there is one catamaran manufacturer we admire at Mers&Bateaux, it is undoubtedly Outremer. This multihull builder holds a special place in a market often focused on chartering. Here, the shipyard, part of the Grand Large Yachting group, caters to owners—typically well-off—who seek a catamaran for long-distance, high-speed cruising.

The Outremer 48 is the shipyard’s latest model, designed to succeed the Outremer 45. This cruising multihull combines performance, comfort, and safety for sailors embarking on long voyages. With a length of 14.63 meters, it offers optimized space while maintaining the brand’s signature characteristics: lightweight, speed, and robustness. The boat has been designed by VPLP Design in collaboration with designers Patrick Le Quément and Darnet Design.

A Boat Designed for Sailing

The Outremer 48 incorporates several innovations to ensure comfortable and efficient sailing.

Modular Helm Station

The helm system is inspired by the shipyard’s larger models, offering four different steering positions. This concept allows optimal adaptation to sailing conditions and the captain’s preferences. The double seat also ensures comfortable watches for two people.

Optimized Rigging

The Outremer 48 features an optimized sail plan with a low boom, providing several advantages:

  • Easy access to the mainsail for adjustments and reefing
  • Lower center of gravity for enhanced stability
  • Improved sailing performance

Layout Designed for Comfort and Visibility

The Outremer 48 stands out with a design that enhances movement flow and visibility on board.

Visibility and Interior-Exterior Access

  • 360° panoramic view from the saloon and cockpit
  • Large openings for natural ventilation
  • Seamless transition between the saloon and cockpit

Ten Layout Versions

The Outremer 48 adapts to each owner’s needs with ten possible configurations. The forward port cabin offers five options:

  • Single, double, or triple cabin
  • Convertible office/workshop
  • Dressing room or children’s cabin
